Consistency and Change – ‘ROCK-tober’

Years ago, there was a DJ on a classic-rock radio station in Seattle who referred to this month as ‘ROCK-tober’. I really relate to that! It’s the in-between month. Here in the northern hemisphere, it definitely is not summer…but it is not exactly the depths of autumn either. The depths of autumn are the cold grey days of November. October is not the beginning of anything, like the beginning of school etc. that September is. It is just the solid month of gradual change: weather change warm to cool (or cool to warm, depending on where you are in the world); gradual time change, light to dark (or dark to light); gradual personal change, outside to in (or inside to out). During this time we have no choice but to accept that change is the constant, change is the normal, and trust that change comes bearing gifts.
October is one of those solid months where nothing seems to begin or end, but everything moves forward and changes – ROCK SOLID – consistent and gradual. It’s a time to live in the “in-between”. Go with the flow and ‘ROCK ON!’
The moon reminds me that the cycles of change are constant. We are meant to experience, build, reach peaks, let go, release, and begin again while still continuing.
I feel life is a series,
a pattern, a journey through
cycle after cycle after cycle,
like that of the moon
drawing in and letting go
receiving and giving
dark and light
(and learning the beauty of both)
desires and dislikes
love and fear
doubt and fearlessness
I am connected somehow to all;
All is somehow connected to me;
For such is the Universe.
Consistency and Change
With all that is happening in our world today, the consistency of change (or change of consistency) seems to be in rapid-fire mode. It’s difficult to remain rock-solid and go with the flow. Do it anyway! Let the energy of “Rock”tober assist you. Remember that change is the only constant. Get out and enjoy nature, as it always finds a way to make change beautiful.
