Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is a therapy much like acupuncture, except without the needles! According to EFT, negative emotions cause disruptions in the body’s energy system. Unresolved negative emotions are thus major contributors to most physical pains and diseases. EFT is not a replacement for other forms of treatment (including modern medicine), but it can be a very useful addition to other treatment methods.
The fact is, sometimes EFT works when apparently nothing else will. Why? Because other methods of treatment often simply overlook the obvious. We are energy, and when our energy system is disrupted, we experience dis-ease (both emotional and physical), and often disease. EFT uses the fact that the physical body, mind, and emotions are intimately related, and can affect each other. Restoring balance in the body’s energy system with EFT is easy, relatively fast, transportable and – most importantly – effective.
EFT is Easy: EFT is performed by tapping (with the fingertips) on a series of energy points on the body in conjunction with specific affirmations. Each tapping point is the endpoint of a major energy meridian, and tapping stimulates them. Affirmations help to “reprogram” the subconscious mind and re-balance the energy meridians. Unlike acupuncture or acupressure that work on specific meridians points for specific problems, EFT enervates all the major meridians because we don’t always know which meridians are involved with a specific problem, especially emotional issues.
EFT is relatively Fast: Each “round” of EFT tapping takes only a minute or two. An experienced EFT practitioner can deal with many problems in only one 30-60 minute session. Properly done, EFT can resolve many issues in only a few rounds of tapping – mere minutes!
EFT is Transportable: Clients can be taught to perform EFT on themselves when and where they need it. The technique is simple, but does require practice to perform effectively. Nonetheless, the ability to help oneself as needed is a distinct advantage over many other healing methods.
EFT is Effective: Performed properly, EFT helps to alleviate or heal a wide variety of emotional and physical symptoms, and often there are “carry-over” or side effects. As emotional debris is resolved over time, many ancillary physical discomforts and ailments begin to diminish. For example, headaches, back pains, and other discomforts frequently become less problematic or disappear. Vision may improve, or you may find yourself better able to deal with daily stress.
The following is a very “short list” of issues/topics for which there are many case studies demonstrating the effectiveness of EFT:
| *Depression | *Claustrophobia | *Agoraphobia | *Fear of Flying |
| *Panic/Anxiety | *Addictions | *Weight Loss | *Vision |
| *ADD-ADHD | *Allergies | *Headaches | *Back Pain |
| *Eating Disorders | *Neuropathy | *Pain Management | *Carpal Tunnel |
| *Blood Pressure | *Sports Performance | *Manifesting | *Children’s Issues |
and the list goes on.
EFT is not 100% perfect, but then neither is anything else. Much depends on the ability of the therapist, the seriousness of the emotional and/or physical symptoms, and the willingness of the client to follow directions and participate in their own healing. Severe cases may require more sessions even with a skilled therapist. The general rule of thumb is “Try it; what’s to lose?” What one will certainly lose is a few minutes of time. What they may very well lose is a great deal of emotional and/or physical pain.
EFT can be a useful addition to conventional treatment regimens in many cases, but it is not a cure-all for every condition. Most EFT therapists are neither physicians nor psychiatrists, nor do they claim to be. However, they do offer people a simple and effective method for dealing with their emotional and physical problems, sometimes when nothing else seems to work. So, what’s to lose?
