From Thought to Manifestation©
You have likely heard it said that “your thoughts create your reality.” That’s not just metaphysics, that’s also quantum physics (a topic for another time). For the moment, consider the following examples from Maitreya (channeled by Margaret McElroy) and Abraham (channeled by Esther Hicks):
• “You create the world you live in. You are the master of your life, nobody else. Your thoughts create your world — your existence — it is as simple as that. You can blame nobody and nothing for your failures and the lack in your life. Because of your fear and doubt, you have allowed this to happen.” ~ Maitreya (Newsletter #20)
• “You create your own reality and you do so because the thoughts that you are thinking cause you to emanate a vibrational frequency that the Law of Attraction is constantly responding to.” ~ Abraham (Co-creating at Its Best: A Conversation Between Master Teachers, 2014)
But every one of us can think of many occasions on which our thoughts did not manifest. So, what happened? Many reasons have been offered for this observation, but the most important reason is that there is often a fundamental misunderstanding about creation and manifestation. The two terms are often used interchangeably, but they are fundamentally different.
Creation vs. Manifestation
Look again at those two previous quotes (there are dozens more that say the same thing but in different ways). Besides the word “create,” the other common denominator is the word “thought,” and the reason is that they are completely interchangeable; they mean the same thing. But the word “manifest” is not present in either of those quotes because it is completely different from “create” and “thought.” Creation/Thinking is a prerequisite for manifesting, but Thinking or Creating alone are not sufficient for manifesting anything. More about that later.
Oh yes, there is another common denominator in those two quotes above, the words “Your Reality.” Note that “your” reality is not exactly the same reality as that of anyone else. The reality referred to here is an observation, your internal experience of what-is. “What-is” certainly applies to the internal experience of the content of your thoughts. And yes, you definitely observe things, people, and events in your external environment, but your perceptions of that “external reality” are the content of your internal experience of those observations. You may agree with others about the content of your external observations (for example, “that dog is a spaniel”), but your reality, your internal experience is unique to you. That is the reality addressed in those first two quotes.
Your thoughts do create your reality, but they only contribute (as a necessary condition) to your manifesting. Could we say that your thoughts manifest your reality? ” Sure, and we would be technically correct, but also guilty of muddying the waters. I recommend that you save the word “create” for “your reality” (which is always the case) and the word “manifest” for the results of “your thoughts” — and a lot of other things — that can sometimes occur in your external environment.
“What-Is” (Observation) vs. What You Want (Imagination)
This seems pretty straightforward, but bear with me for a moment. You might say something like, “I have a bicycle (external observation), but I want an automobile (internal, imagination).” Or you might say something like, “I feel sad (internal observation), but I want to feel happy (internal, imagination).” Clearly, an observation is a Thought about “what-is” in either your external or internal environment. Imagination, on the other hand, is always a thought about what you want, and thoughts create your reality. OK, so what?
• “We’re going to give you a very powerful statement: Everything that you will someday live, in terms of life experience (and by someday, we mean as soon as right now, tomorrow, the next day, or someday), anything that you will someday live, you have first imagined. Because nothing will manifest in your experience without the imagination process happening first.” ~ Abraham (Houston, TX, January 5, 2002)
• “Never mind what-is. Imagine it the way you want it to be so that your vibration is a match to your desire. When your vibration is a match to your desire, all things in your experience will gravitate to meet that match every time.” ~ Abraham (Boca Raton, FL. January 12, 1997)
• “Nothing has ever happened to you that you did not set in motion in your imagination.” ~ Neville Goddard (1905-1972; Barbadian-American metaphysics teacher & New Thought/New Age author; “The Creator”)
• “Every thought becomes something. From the moment of its conception, the thought becomes reality. Every time you think, whether a good or bad thought, you immediately set up a reality. You create a thought about something or someone, and that thought is destined to manifest. If it does not, it goes back within, but it does not go back to where it came from because it has been created and cannot be uncreated. So, it goes within the Etheric (Auric body) and stays there unmoving, still, waiting, until it can be used.” ~ Maitreya (Newsletter #275)
Beliefs = Thoughts x Repetition
So, your thoughts create your reality, and your imagination focuses on what you want (not “what-is”). But Beliefs are your thoughts on steroids; they are your truth! Why? Because your beliefs reflect the balance of your life experiences as you understand them at the present time. But how do we “pump-up” mere thoughts (which by themselves produce only observations) into more powerful beliefs (perhaps leading to manifesting)?
• “As you imagine and visualize and verbalize your new story, in time you will believe the new story, and when that happens, the evidence will flow swiftly into your experience. A belief is only a thought you continue to think; and when your beliefs match your desires, then your desires must become your reality.” ~ Abraham (Money and the Law of Attraction: Learning to Attract Health, Wealth and Happiness, 2008)
• “The time it takes your assumption to become fact, your desire to be fulfilled, is directly proportionate to the naturalness of your feeling…. Regardless of your desire, regardless of how faithfully and intelligently you follow the law, if you do not feel natural about what you want to be, you will not be it. If it does not feel natural to you to get a better job, you will not get a better job.” ~ Neville Goddard
A Belief is essentially a “thought habit,” a characteristic way of thinking that we grow into through practice — through repetition, repetition, repetition. Changing existing beliefs or creating new beliefs involves the same process as creating or changing habits. With practice (repetition and reinforcement) the belief becomes more natural, more “believable,” more powerful. With practice we begin to see (believe) that the likelihood of manifesting what we want gets stronger and stronger. And so, we come to the next part of the story, understanding how we get from thought to manifestation.
Manifestation = Belief x Value
From what we have learned, it makes sense that Manifestation = Belief x Value, the product of the strength of one’s Beliefs regarding what they want (Imagination) multiplied by their Subjective Valuation of the manifestation they desire. It is multiplicative because weak or non-existent thoughts by themselves produce nothing (no manifestation), and even very strong beliefs will manifest little or nothing if the strength of “what-you-want” is unimportant or irrelevant. In short, zero multiplied by anything always equals zero. It takes both Belief and Value to manifest anything, and beliefs are strong thoughts. So, what is Value?
