Wisdom Card #51 – Love

What is love? Love is pure energy of the Divine. Many people believe that love is passion, romance and intensity. It can be this. It can also be the desire to be with someone, to share their energy, and to help them in any way you can. Love is the need within you to share with another person – no matter what gender – a closeness, and to give and receive affection. Love is looking at another and seeing the beauty in them. It is having compassion and understanding for all living things. It is being non-judgmental, accepting the other person for who they are, and seeing the Divine inside of them, despite any perceived impediments. Love does not want to interfere, nor does it want to stop another from growing. Instead, love gently helps, making suggestions when asked, and allows the other person to find their own answers in their own way.

Love does not give energy to anything. It just allows the flow of life to pass it by, understanding the times when things do not go perfectly. At these times, love is strength and, if allowed, love can conquer the darkness that can accompany difficulties in life. Love has no judgment of another. Love recognizes that each person has his or her own path and own plan for life. Love does not see imperfection. Love can see into the soul and understand why the person has that path to take. Love does not command, demand, nor control. Love does not manipulate, nor dictate; it is never angry. It is unselfish and it is kind. Love cares, and is concerned for the welfare of another. Love is a smile. Love accepts everything. It does not question. Love gives without expectation of anything in return.

A sexual union among those who have no love between them is just an action. It can be a pleasurable action, but it cannot satisfy the soul. Only when you have an open heart and feel affection for your sexual partner, can the sexual act become a spiritually momentous occasion.

There are two types of love in the world today: conditional love and unconditional love. When you are in conditional love, you have demands or restrictions on others. As in, “If I love you, you will do this.” Many people say they have love for another, but how many can say that their love is unconditional? So many say they have love, but it is not a love of passion or feeling. “Yes, I love,” they say, “But, I do not love the way you do this or that.”

What is unconditional love? It is the purest form of love, for it transcends all boundaries. Unconditional love needs no approval or praise. Unconditional love has no barriers; it simply loves. Unconditional love does not hurt another. It does not cause pain or suffering. It does not lie, cheat, demand, confuse or manipulate. It is a love that is given without demands. Unconditional love is not afraid to be compassionate, to touch, kiss and hold. Unconditional love comes from the heart.

So many people play emotional games with their partners or the person they love, and they use love as a weapon. These games instill fear – the fear of abandonment and the fear of being alone. However, love is not a weapon. It never can be. Very few people are capable of unconditional love, but for those who give it, and those who receive it, it is truly love of the highest form. When love is in action, it is demonstrated by both partners in the sharing of affection, kindness, and consideration to each other. Once two people can be together in unconditional love, then and only then, can the Divine be placed into action, and then they truly know The Ultimate Being (God).

Very often there is a situation that happens to many individuals, where one person is in love with another, but that love is not reciprocated. Why is this? This is because of past life energy. Both souls have a past life connection, however the person on the receiving end of this attention has already worked through their part of the past life energy – perhaps in other incarnations. The person who is giving the love out has the most amazing feelings for the other person, in some cases falling head-over-heels for them. They are acting silly and doing silly things, and not knowing why they do it. However, the other person cannot feel anything, and feels no love in return. This can be very a frustrating situation for the person who gives out the love, but wonders why the other does not feel it in return.

Usually the lesson is to touch on the energy and then move on, perhaps to repay a karmic debt or to help out another soul. It is all past life related. The one doing the pursuing is positive that there is love energy there – they have such feelings – yet there is no response from the other person. Often, the lesson is for the one doing the pursuing to learn to love unconditionally and to detach from the situation.

It is all about the lesson, not the person. You cannot love unconditionally if you are holding onto intense emotion from a previous encounter, for that is “need”, not love. True love is gentle, does not demand, does not want revenge, is not angry, can walk away without pain, and most of all is totally unconditional.

Through this card the Universe is asking what conditions do you place on your love? What do you expect of your partner, child, friend, parent or associate? Think of the way you love. Is it a love that is unconditional? What does your love expect? Let go of your fear, understand that the person you love is different from you. They cannot be you, and you cannot be them. Accept another person’s uniqueness, and allow your love to come from your heart, then you will know true love.
